The Roots of Empathy programme is where a baby called Réidín comes into 2nd Class every Thursday at 10 o'clock and 2nd Class are going to see how Réidín grows in a year. Everyone loves when the baby comes into school and they love to go down to the music room and sing songs and read stories to her. Thank you to Gráinne Duffy for running this iniative in our school.
Every Friday a musician called Harry Long comes in and teaches 1st-6th class some good tunes on the ukulele. We really enjoy the lessons and look forward to them each week. This term runs from Friday the 27th of September until Friday the 6th of December.
Every Thursday at big break, the LEGO Club meet in the music room and play with LEGO. This year we have new sets and photographs to guide the children as they build. Thanks to Mrs. McCarthy for organising the LEGO club and thanks to Eoghan Doyle and Faolán Potts for building the sets.
Our school celebrated Friendship Week from the 30th of September- 4th of October. Every class learned about what makes a good friend and how to be kind to others. We made a forest down the corridor and every class has their own tree that represents a season. Each pupil stamped their hand print on the tree and now we have a lovely display along our corridor.
Maths week started on October 12th and ended on the 20th. Children entered photos of maths all around them for the Maths Eyes competiton. We also did a counting choir each morning on the yard before we went inside. The counting choir involves counting in multiples, which are different for each class. The pupils also formed together to make different lines and shapes.
On October 21st, all classes participated in a STEAM workshop with STEAM Academy. They used LEGO robotics kits and their own Revolution Robotic build kits to deliver engaging lessons. The team also introduced us to a robot dog [pictured above], which they used to demonstrate how robotics work—and it even performed a few dances for us! A big thank you to Mrs. Smith for organising this fantastic event for the school. They will be setting up an after school workshop after the mid term. Details to follow.
