Monitoring

With the distance involved between Woodbury Salterton and Dumbutu this is not always easy and we have to rely mainly on trust and what information we receive by email from the secretary of the Dumbutu Link Committee, Modou Jammeh. As Modou, like most of the adult males of the village, works and resides in Banjul, the capital, this can be somewhat spasmodic. However, we are fortunate in having a member of our committee who makes annual visits to the Gambia (as part of her job) and always tries to visit Dumbutu. The headmaster of the Dumbutu school, Lang K Dabo is chairman of the Dumbutu link committee and has proved to be very reliable but as there is no electricity supply to the village computers and email or other forms of electronic media are not available. He does write occasionally to keep us informed of the sponsorship requirements, sending the names of the children currently being sponsored. The postal system is spasmodic and very unreliable, taking up to several months to arrive.
