Gambia's Ex-President Yahya Jammeh ended his 22-year grip on power on Friday 20th January 2017 when he agreed to sign a last-minute deal to step down.

Troops waiting in neighboring Senegal threatened to invade but President Yahya Jammeh agreed to hand over power to Adama Barrow after diplomatic pressure was put on him by surrounding nations.

When president Barrow returned from a short stay in Senegal thousands of people greeted him - dancing and singing in the streets
