Women in STEM: An International Womens’ Day Event
Our very own Dr Elena Sitnikova was keynote speaker at an event for International Womens’ Day! This event was designed to support female students interested in breaking into the IT industry, with a panel discussion on how to succeed in the field. Dr Elena told us “It was great to be a keynote for the Women in STEM – IWD event and participate in a panel discussion with Nicole, Alice, and Cindy from the Fivecast at Tonsley last night. Thank you, Flinders University Cybersecurity Society, for facilitating such a vibrant event. It is wonderful to celebrate women’s contributions in STEM and inspire and help future graduates in their journey as professionals in technical fields such as IT, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, and other areas of cutting-edge technical fields.” Click here to see the recording:

Ethical Hacking: Earn Money While You Upskill!
The online industry is forever growing and so are the opportunities of a “bug bounty hunter”. If you have extra time on your hands, dive deep into the industry and make some serious money while upskilling.
Bug bounty hunting is when hackers are rewarded for finding security vulnerabilities in websites and applications. And there are many companies out there looking for security researchers and workers to help improve cyber defences with rewards ranging from $100 to $10,000. Check out who is paying top dollar:
● GitHub Security
● Paypal
● Intel
● Snapchat
● Cisco Meraki
● Dropbox
Not sure where to get started? Try these free youtube channels to learn all things bounty hunting and where you can start.
● Bugcrowd
● InsiderPHD
● Nahamsec
Can’t code (yet), no worries! There are multiple roles in cyber security that don’t require coding. These include:
● Risk manager
● Security sales specialist
● Security technical writer
● Compliance specialist
● IT security auditor
● Junior security analyst
● Security policy writer
● Security awareness admin
And don’t forget - if you have work experience, you have transferable skills into cyber
security! Have any of these roles worked for you? Tell us about your experience and any tips you would like to share with the rest of our community!
