Characterization:
the way an author reveals the personality of a character.
Direct characterization - the author states something directly about the character (“he is evil,” “she is very smart”)
Indirect characterization - the author reveals an aspect of character without directly stating it.
through the words or actions of the character
through description of the character’s thoughts and feelings
through description of the character’s expression, clothing, etc.
through comments other characters make about him or her
