The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence
Expanding its high-fidelity implementation of PBIS, West Whittier was awarded a 2-year grant for training and coaching in Yale's RULER program. This grant was facilitated through our partnership with LACOE's TEAL-SEL initiative.
RULER is an evidence-based approach for integrating social and emotional learning into schools. RULER applies “hard science” to the teaching of what have historically been called “soft skills” of emotional intelligence — those associated with:
R ecognizing emotions in self and others
U nderstanding the causes and consequences of emotions
L abeling emotions accurately
E xpressing emotions appropriately
R egulating emotion effectively
Decades of research show that these skills are essential to effective teaching and learning, sound decision making, physical and mental health, and success in school and beyond.
Visit the RULER Approach website for more information.
