An electronic medical record (EMR) is a digital version of a patient’s paper chart. EMR systems are real-time, patient- centered records made available instantly and securely to authorized users. EMR systems:
- Contain patient medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, immunization dates, allergies, radiology images, and laboratory and test results.
- Provide tools that allow providers to efficiently complete documentation, enter orders, and make decisions about a patient’s care.
