Understanding Italics in APA References

Notice how, in the references list below, only certain types of titles are italicized. In APA style, we italicize works that are considered "stand-alone works," meaning they are not published as a component of a larger work. Typical titles italicized in APA style include books, ebooks, videos, journals, reports, booklets, and pamphlets. We would not italicize the titles of articles or web pages because these aren't considered "stand-alone works" in APA style.
