Arya Koneru is a 3L at Wake Forest Law, originally from San Antonio, Texas. As Communications Chair, she maintains the ILS website and social media.
I majored in Asian Studies and International Relations in college, which helped me understand just how broad international law is. I've always been interested in international relations and public policy, and I hope to translate that interest into a career in public international law.
ILS is relatively new, and I wanted to serve on the board to ensure it becomes an organization that promotes the diversity of topics covered in international law. I want to help mold the organization into one that serves as an important resource for law students interested in international law.
I spent my 1L summer working for an immigration firm in my hometown of San Antonio. In addition to working on the detain docket, I drafted visa applications originally authorized through NAFTA, and worked on other family and business immigration applications for international clients. I also worked on a pro bono project assisting individuals affected by COVID-19 file unemployment claims. In addition to those projects, I was a research assistant for a criminal law professor at Wake. My 2L summer, I worked for the DOJ's Civil Rights Division in DC doing employment discrimination work.
Outside of law school, I enjoy reading, cooking, watching reality TV with friends, or cheering on the Texas Longhorns.
