The garden of the Outdoor Classroom has been designed as an ethnobotanical garden. Ethnobotany is defined by Wikipedia as "the study of a region's plants and their practical uses through the traditional knowledge of a local culture and people." Through ethnobotany, individuals learn about a region's plants and how they have been traditionally used by a local culture not only for food, but also for other uses such as medicine, clothing, textiles, dyes, shelter, transportation, music, and recreation. Ethnobotany helps us to develop a sense of place, leading to a stronger desire to protect that place.
