Welcome To The Nurse's Corner
When To Keep Your Child Home
Diarrhea - 3 or more watery stools in a 24 hour period.
Fever - Temp 100.4 degrees or higher. Keep home for a full 24 hours after the temperature has returned to normal (without medication)
Vomiting - Stay home if he/she has vomited in the past 24 hours.
Sore Throat - Keep home if there is a fever or swollen glands.
Medication Forms & Information
MEDICATIONS: A physician's order must accompany all medications to be given during the school day, including over-the-counter drugs to be given regularly. If a student must receive medications in school (including students in need of emergency medications such as Epi Pen, inhalers, Diastat) a physician order is required and must be obtained prior to administering medication. Please note that a new order is required at the beginning of every school year. A prescription label IS NOT acceptable in lieu of an MD’s order.
NO child is to take or carry PRESCRIPTION OR OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS to school. All medication must be brought into the nurse by an adult, and must be in an appropriately labeled container. Please be sure to ask the pharmacy for a second prescription bottle with a label for school if needed.
Over the counter medication request/authorization - this needs to be filled out every year if you would like your child to receive any medications as needed, such as Benadryl, Tylenol, or Motrin.
Medication Authorization (Elementary) - for prescription medication to be given at school. This requires a doctor's authorization.
Current COVID Guidelines
If your child tests POSITIVE for COVID please have them isolate at home until they are fever free (without any fever reducing medication like Tylenol or Motrin) for 24 hours, and their symptoms are improving. Once they are no longer isolating, we ask that they wear a mask for 5 days after.
If they are NEGATIVE but EXPOSED we ask that you monitor them for symptoms and test them on Day 5 of exposure, or at the onset of any symptoms.
Peanut and Nut Free Classroom Information
There are students in our school community with allergies to Peanuts and/or Tree Nuts. For some students with severe allergies, the smell, touch, or taste of these foods can be life threatening, even in small amounts. Strict avoidance is the only way to prevent a severe allergic reaction. Peanuts and peanut/nut oil can be found in many foods, including baked goods and most chocolate candy.
We must do all that we can to provide our students with a safe learning environment. In an effort to do this we are asking that you not pack any peanut/nut containing snacks that would be eaten in the classroom and not use peanuts/nuts in any art or science project. Lunches will be stored in a designated area in the classroom until lunch time. At that time, your child is free to eat peanut/nut containing food. We do ask to encourage your child to wash his/her hands thoroughly after eating peanut/tree nut containing food.
Check all food labels carefully and avoid any products that list nuts, peanuts or peanut flour as an ingredient. Avoid any products that states "may contain traces of nuts" or "made in factory that produces nut products".
We thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in this very important matter. Please call at any time with any questions or concerns.
