Support us going into our 6th year of operation!
The Staples Zero Waste Committee (ZWC) is eager to start the 2024-2025 school year. We are hoping to start many new projects to positively impact the staples community's environmental impact. This is including, but not limited to a recycling program of graduation caps and gowns, student available EV chargers, a rebranding of our annual sustainability fair, a larger focus on composting within the school community, and spread awareness to the student body about the importance of Zero Waste living and initiatives. Support us by coming to our meetings, every Tuesday in the "ASK" Classroom at the Staples LMC. Each meeting is from 2:45-3:15.
'23-24 YEAR IN REVIEW: A CHOCK FULL YEAR OF WORKING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!
This school year has been one for the books in terms of the Zero Waste Committee. This year, we were able to continue previous initiatives such as the sustainability fair and EcoBoutiques, with our most successful one yet being this year, due to our collaboration with the costumes dept. at Staples Players. We've also hosted several cleanups, and collaborated on a sapling planting event.Â
'22-23 YEAR IN REVIEW: TO A GREAT YEAR OF SUSTAINABILITY AT STAPLES
The club has continued making sustainable efforts with commitment towards reducing waste and cleaning the earth of existing garbage. We started off the year with a school thrift store in the first quarter. In November, we hosted our first annual Holiday Green Festival, with over 25 sustainable vendors for holiday shopping! We continued the year with a Valentine's Day thrift store and geared up for Earth Week... The week of April 22nd, we hosted a quarterly in-school thrift store, garbage cleanup around the school, and a garbage cleanup of the River Walk in Downtown Westport. It was a successful year of making Westport a greener place!
