What a year! This past year alone, by the end of May, over 5,200 lbs of food scraps were recovered through our composting initiative, which is the equivalent of avoiding 3,172 lbs of CO2, which is the equivalent of avoiding 3,616 miles of driving. Not to mention, we collected over 7,500 returnable bottles for pick up by EyeRecycle to ensure that the plastic is definitely reused. Bottle returns are the best way to ensure plastic is actually recycled. We also helped clean up our own community through both a school based clean up day this past year as well as a downtown one for our town. We also collected used clothing from our students and staff and then held a pop-thrift store each quarter.
Hey guys! Since my last entry, we've had so many fun sustainability faires, some of which have even been held at staples! It's been so fun to spread the joy of sustainable living to the greater Fairfield county community, but I want to make a bigger impact. I've decided that next year's sustainability fair will be the FutureFest, not the EcoFest. This is because at the end of the day, we are fighting for our future! I felt that this will get more people interested, because for many it is difficult to think about the dangers that climate change poses.
Hi everyone! Zero here. I'm writing here to talk about the Wilton Sustainability Faire that Staples had a booth in on 6/5/2022. At the faire, there were a variety of booths with Zero Waste and sustainable living initiatives all around Fairfield County. Faire attendees were also encouraged to utilize on-site recycling facilities, with companies such as Bye Bye Mattress, Junkluggers, Bay State Textiles and many more offering free recycling services. Attendees could grab a bite to eat at the food trucks and watch a performance of Cyril the sustainable wizard. After the faire's two year hiatus as a result of Covid-19, it was refreshing to be able to attend the event once more, and we hope to continue Staples Zero Waste's presence there in the future.
Hi everyone! Zero here. We are super excited to be back in full swing and ready to launch our program this year. We want to change our school community for the better and we need your help! Soon the cafeteria will have composting bins for all your food waste. It will take a little extra work to put your food in the composting bins instead of everything in the trash but it is incredibly worth it to start making our school more sustainable. We look forward to working with the entire school community in this process.
