All students at GFS begin each music class with a kinesthetic & vocal warm-up.
5th Graders at Green's Farms School will:
(1) keep a steady beat (silent & aloud) using body percussion and instruments
(2) sing using an appropriate (healthy) singing voice
(3) echo vocal patterns using solfege syllables
(4) sing songs (e.g. GFS School Songs)
(5) dance organized dances (Circles, Squares & Long-Ways Sets, plus free-form dances)
6) continue to read, identify and play the notes on the TREBLE CLEF staff using pitched percussion and recorders
(7) continue to read and identify rhythms, including whole notes/rests, half notes/rests, quarter notes/rests, eighth notes/rests
(8) continue to read and identify musical notation including time signatures, tempo and dynamic markings
(9) play recorder and pitched & unpitched instruments in the music room
(e.g. hand drums, rhythm sticks, xylophones, metallophones & glockenspeils)
(10) listen and respond to music from a variety of cultures while analyzing MUSICAL EXPRESSION (tempo, dynamics & articulation) and how music makes them feel (using the Mood Meter).
