All students at GFS begin each music class with a kinesthetic & vocal warm-up.
2nd Graders at Green's Farms School will:
(1) keep a steady beat (silent & aloud) using body percussion and instruments
(2) sing using an appropriate (healthy) singing voice
(3) echo vocal patterns using solfege syllables
(4) learn to identify and use proper names for musical rhythm symbols (e.g. ta = "quarter note", ti = "eighth note", etc...)
(5) sing a variety of GFS School Songs, folk songs and curricularly-appropriate songs
(6) develop an understanding of how songs can be used to AFFECT CHANGE
(e.g. songs of the Civil Rights Movement/Martin Luther King and Patriotic Songs)
(7) dance organized dances and free-form dances (e.g. "Billy Billy", "Head & Shoulders")
(8) play musical games (e.g. "SoLaMi", "Old King Glory", "Stella Ella Ola") plus a variety of American hand games,
(e.g. "Miss Mary Mack" and Japanese games, e.g. "Wild Bird", "Water Wheel", etc...)
(9) explore pitched & unpitched instruments in the music room
(e.g. hand drums, rhythm sticks, vibraslap, ratchet, xylophones, metallophones & glockenspeils)
(10) listen and respond to music from a variety of cultures, including Japan
