All students at GFS begin each music class with a kinesthetic & vocal warm-up.
3rd Graders at Green's Farms School will:
(1) keep a steady beat (silent & aloud) using body percussion and instruments
(2) sing using an appropriate (healthy) singing voice
(3) echo vocal patterns using solfege syllables
(4) sing songs, including American folk songs & school songs (e.g. GFS School Songs, "Oh, Susannah",
"Old Dan Tucker", "Home On The Range", "Red River Valley", etc..)
(5) dance organized dances (Circles, Squares & Long-Ways Sets, plus free-form dances (e.g. "Alabama Gal",
"Tideo", "Troika", "Simple Square", "Lucky Seven")
6) learn to read, identify and play the notes on the TREBLE CLEF staff using pitched percussion and recorders
(7) learn to read and identify rhythms, including whole notes/rests, half notes/rests, quarter notes/rests, eighth notes/rests
(8) learn to read and identify musical notation including time signatures, tempo and dynamic markings
(9) play recorder and pitched & unpitched instruments in the music room
(e.g. hand drums, rhythm sticks, xylophones, metallophones & glockenspeils)
(10) listen and respond to music from a variety of culture
