All students at GFS begin each music class with a kinesthetic & vocal warm-up.
1st Graders at Green's Farms School will learn to:
(1) keep a steady beat (silent & aloud) using body percussion and instruments
(2) sing using an appropriate (healthy) singing voice
(3) echo vocal patterns using solfege syllables
(4) sing nursery rhymes, folk and curricularly-appropriate songs
(5) dance organized dances and free-form dances (e.g. "London Bridge", "Jump Jim Joe")
(6) play musical games (e.g. "SoLaMi", "Acka Backa Soda Cracker", "Lucy Locket")
(7) tell a story using musical instruments (e.g. "Peter & The Wolf", "Over In The Meadow", "Chicken Licken")
(8) explore pitched & unpitched instruments in the music room (e.g. hand drums, rhythm sticks, vibraslap, ratchet, xylophones, metallophones & glockenspeils)
(9) listen and respond to music from a variety of cultures
(10) listen to Benjamin Britten's "Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra" and Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter & The Wolf" and identify the instrument families of the Orchestra (string, woodwind, brass & percussion)
