Adult Volunteers Needed for the GFS Grade Five Show
Stage Manager(s): Attend all after school rehearsals, including dress rehearsals, performances and break-down. Oversee Scene Design/Set creation and movement, lighting, costumes, props.
Rehearsal Manager(s): Similar to classroom management: take attendance, help students go to their correct spots, assist the directors, call families during emergencies, reward/redirect behavior. Carry extra pencils!
Scenic/Set Designer(s): Design, build and implement sets; organize backstage set crew to handle set-changes, and breakdown and clean-up of sets.
Choreographer: Design and teach choreography for all songs and movement between and within scenes.
Costume Director: Review available costumes for sale/rent or create costumes from scratch for 30+ students/characters. Size students. Design, assemble, maintain/repair/clean, store, and dissemble costumes. Recruit a crew to help during dress rehearsals and performances. Collect and label boxes for students to put clothes/backpacks/costumes/snacks in during rehearsals.
Make-Up Director: Work with Costume Director to determine most effective use of make-up for each character. Schedule opportunities for students to practice wearing and/or applying make-up. Recruit a crew to help during dress rehearsals and performances.
Sound Designer: Design and Implement ideas for delivering the best sound possible (accompaniments are played on a stereo, speakers have clip-on microphones that we have rented in the past). Manage sound effects and special effects.
Marketing, Publicity & Community Outreach Director: Photograph rehearsals and the show, send out press releases to the local news outlets, including the PTA Patches Press and Patches Productions morning news. Reach out to local communities (e.g. Westport Senior Center, STARR home, local preschools). Consider holding a canned food drive or candy for the troops drive during the performances. Find a tie-in for Social Emotional Learning activities and share with the school and town community. Work closely with Program Coordinator & Photographer.
Program Coordinator: Organize the Program for the show (cast/crew lists, notes from directors, Mr. Byrne and PTA, advertisements, song lists (maybe) plus "shout-outs" for every student). In 2021-22: Maureen Choe & Ying Minakan used Baker Graphics and a computer design program called "InDesign" - Directors were unable to make design/text edits. In 2022-23, Mr. McLaughlin created the program using a website.
Cast/Crew Photographer: and photograph each child for a “headshot”. Work with Publicity & Community Outreach Director.
Ticket Sales: self-explanatory
Bake Sale Coordinators: coordinate day-of-show bake sale and food for cast/crew at the cast party.
Fundraising: Design and implement a fundraising program to help defray costs of the show (e.g. candy sales, contests, trivia, maybe combine PTA fundraiser?)
Volunteer Coordinator: Recruit a band of adult volunteers to help with all of these jobs, including a crew to help out during Dress Rehearsals (costumes, make-up, hair, sets, props and student behavior management. :) Organize "Thank You" gifts to give to volunteers at the end of the final show.
