At Hurlbutt Elementary School, students in grades K-2 explore music in an active and fun way! We explore a sequential and comprehensive curriculum to provide a strong foundation for further musical experiences. We sing songs, learn about music notation, play classroom instruments, compose songs, do movement games and dances, and learn how to work together as a group.

Beginning in kindergarten, students learn to explore their singing voices, play classroom instruments, and move and create music. As students move through first grade, they continue their musical growth by beginning to read and notate music and continuing to learn how to sing in tune. By second grade, students will have explored a variety of rhythmic and melodic concepts. They learn how to listen to and analyze music as well as perform, create, and move to more complex music.
