Wildcat Woods

Disc Golf Course

Welcome to Wildcat Woods Disc Golf Course!

Object of the Game: to play each hole with the fewest throws (strokes) possible. The player with the lowest total strokes for the course wins.

Safety first: Never throw when players or any other people are in range. Always give pedestrians the right of way. Be aware of your surrounding environment.

Guidelines for Play

Each hole begins at the tee.

Subsequent throws are made from the place where the disc comes to rest (the lie).

The player who is furthest from the target throws first.

The hole is completed when the disc is supported by the target’s basket or chains.

Tee off order is determined by player’ scores on the previous hole. Lowest score tees first.

Why Disc Golf?

Why play Disc Golf at WHS? Beyond the exercise achieved in throwing and walking the course, there are many mental health benefits. Throwing discs and walking in the woods both help to relieve stress. It can be played solo, in pairs, or in small groups with equal enjoyment. It is also a game that welcomes all ages, abilities and experience levels, as you compete mostly with yourself and try to match the demands of the course and the elements. Disc golf is not as much about beating another player, but being better than you were the last time you played. It is a sport that can appeal to many different types of people, from the most competitive athlete, to someone just looking for a fun, active pastime. There are few time restrictions. You can play a few holes or multiple rounds. For me, disc golf is about ‘mindfulness’, as each throw requires a reading of the wind, estimation of distance and power, effective disc selection, and shaping my shot around the obstacles of that particular hole. It requires very little investment in equipment to get started and many pros talk about playing their first few rounds with just one disc. Most important of all, the number one rule of disc golf is to have fun!

What a great way to recharge with a quick round in the morning, during a free block or at lunch, during activity block with the Disc Golf Club, or after school, solo or with friends! Our 12-hole course takes about an hour to play through but you can start at any hole and stop whenever you have to.

Lastly, there are very few DG courses near WHS. This is a unique feature of the WHS/WMS property and a special opportunity for Weston students and the greater Weston Community. Special thanks to WEEFC for their vision and generosity.
