"Caddy Book"

Hole 1: "The Comb"

Hole 1 requires you to choose a dead-straight shot through the trees, or a flare skip off the road to reach the basket. If your disc lands on top of the shipping container, you must re-tee with an added penalty.

Make sure the green is clear of people and look through the trees to see if anyone is walking from the pond toward the middle school before you throw.

Hole 1 near the MS parking lot and with a covered walkway for seating is a great spot to meet your friends for a round.

Hole 2: Crash the Green

For Hole 2 you just want to sneak past the guardian trees that line the edge of the road and protect the green. This is a gentle downhill shot. Stay off the athletic fields or take a 1-stroke penalty. Middle school roof is OB but only a really bad throw will land up there. Be respectful of any shot put practice or events going on, and watch for vehicles and pedestrians on the roads and paths.

Hole 2 Flythrough coming soon...

 Hole 3

"The Crochet Hook"

A right-hand sidearm (aka forehand) throw will help your disc fade toward the basket tucked in a hollow around the corner. You can also reach the basket with a right-hand backhand if you give it enough anhyzer angle. Any water in the fairway should be played "casual", take your lie  on dry ground from behind where your disc landed but in line with the basket. Stay off the soccer fields!

*Update: There is a new, somewhat direct line through the trees to get you close to the basket or maybe get lucky and get the ace.

Hole 4: The Fade

There is a line straight at the basket but it is a tough gap to get through. Plus, if you miss the tiny gap, you are looking at a very difficult upshot through all the rough, on uneven ground. Better to throw a hard hyzer to the right and let it fade in toward the basket. Stay off the soccer fields or incur a penalty stroke and throw from where the disc went OB. Watch out for headwinds that can push your disc into the OB. Any water in gully is "casual".

Hole 5: Those Pesky Trees

Hole 5 is a tricky drive onto a pretty green. Will you swing it wide with a forehand hook shot, a backhand turnover, or just throw straight at it and hope to clear the rocks? Speaking of rocks, watch your step accessing any throw that lands on the rocks.

Hole 6: The Classic Tunnel Shot

Just throw straight at the basket. Sounds easy, right? Remember to angle the nose of your disc downward to match the slope. Any throws released flat will fade into the trees. Let anyone putting on hole 4 know if your throw is heading their way.

Hole 7: The Helpful Mando

The MANDO sign indicates your throw must stay to the left of the sign and the tree it is attached to. Throw straight with a slightly overstable disc and you will be 'parked'. Just miss the huge oak to the right and the big rock to the left protecting the basket. Remember soccer fields are always OB. Watch out for wind that can push your disc toward the OB.

Hole 8: It's Right There!

Or is it? This hole makes you want to take the straight line right at the basket but a kick off of any tree will have you scrambling for par. A backhand turnover or a good righty forehand around to the left might get you closer.

Hole 9: The Par 4 Island

This hole requires a good placement shot to have any chance of reaching the basket on the second throw.  The closer you are to the OB line near the "landing zone" the easier your second throw will be. If your disc goes OB on your first throw, take your next throw where it last crossed OB, and add a penalty stroke to your score. If your disc doesn't land safely on the island green for your SECOND throw but rolls into the athletic fields, take your next throw from the "Drop Zone", and add another penalty stroke. You can also opt to play "stroke and distance" rules and have to keep throwing until you land on the green. This is a short Par 4 but is it even possible to "eagle"?  (Hint: Yes! It takes a perfect throw with the right amount of glide and fade.)

Hole 10: My Favorite

This hole has a hidden entrance (just past 3rd base of the softball field) and from the tee it doesn't feel like you are on school property anymore.  The big oak right in front of the tee pad immediately makes you choose a side. There are several lines that take you to the basket but they can be hard to find and even harder to repeat. It doesn't help that the basket is hidden down behind the second rise in the fairway. OB is everywhere outside of the trees or stone wall. What will you throw?

Hole 11

By now you should have practice trying to miss the trees. This hole is the same. A straight throw with a subtle left to right turn will likely give you a putt. Stone wall marks the OB on the left. "Jail" is on the right.

Hole 12: The Scythe

Hole 12 is a hard left turn just past the mando tree and the mound on the left side. Make sure your disc is to the right of the mando tree or you will not only have to re-tee with a penalty stroke added, but in the summer your disc will likely be in thick poison ivy.  (Yikes! See the "About" page for the best method to prevent poison ivy from causing a rash.)

Hole 12 Flyover.mp4

That's all for now. You have completed the Wildcat Woods 12 holes! Three new holes are in progress between Hole 5 and Hole 6, with tee pads and practice baskets in place!  Eventually, there might be more holes added to bring us up to the magic 18 holes. After passing Basket 12 you will find yourself by Hole 3. Make a left and follow the gravel road to go back toward Hole 1 or make a right and play 3-12 again! I hope you enjoyed the course. Please email fehlc@weston.org with any questions, comments, or suggestions. Peace.
