An Award of Arms is the first level of "armigerous" award. (It confers the right to bear arms.) It is given usually for service or other significant contribution to the well-being of the Kingdom or Principality, usually at the local level. There is no token given. (NOTE: This list does not include those who received their Award of Arms with a Court Barony or a Leaf-level award. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the largest award listing here as the Award of Arms is often the first award people receive ...) Abbrev: AA or AoA. It should also be noted that the Baron and/or Baroness of the Far West may grant Awards of Arms to residents of Their Barony by Kingdom Law.
Forms of Address:
When talking to: Lord / Lady / Armiger (name)
Referring to: Lord / Lady / Armiger (name)
Signing letters as: Lord / Lady / Armiger (name), if you have an award (from above), such as a Leaf of Achievement, adding the initials after the name is appropriate, i.e., Lord (name), ORL
[Titles shown may be substituted for alternate language/gender titles if known ...]
There are three "Leaves of Achievement" given within the Kingdom of the West. (NOTE: If a recipient of a Leaf of Achievement received their Award of Arms at the same time as their Leaf, they will not be listed in the Award of Arms.) By Kingdom Law, the Leaves of Achievement carry the same precedent amongst themselves (one leaf does not carry a higher rank than any other).
The Order of the Leaf of Merit is given for service. This is given at the wish of Their Majesties or Their Highnesses, but often upon recommendation by knowledgeable people. The token for this is a cast pewter laurel leaf pendant. Membership in this Order will carry an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Sometimes abbreviated: OLM.
The Order of the Rose Leaf is given for expertise in the arts or sciences This is given at the wish of Their Majesties or Their Highnesses, but often upon recommendation by knowledgeable people. The token for this award is a pendant (in various media) in the shape of a rose leaf for the Rose Leaf. Membership in this Order will carry an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Sometimes abbreviated: ORL.
The Order of the Ash Leaf is given for expertise in combat (including, but not limited to heavy, rapier, combat archery ...). This is given at the wish of Their Majesties or Their Highnesses, but often upon recommendation by knowledgeable people. The token for this award is a pendant of an ash leaf. Membership in this Order will carry an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Sometimes abbreviated: OAL.
The Order of the Western Lily may be offered to those the Crown finds deserving of great honor for both their individual excellent achievements and for their consistent contributions in teaching others of their skills and knowledge of the arts, sciences and other activities that strengthen and enhance the Kingdom. Membership in this Order will carry an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. By Kingdom Law, this award ranks the same as the Leaves of Achievement. The token of this award is a pendant of a natural lily dependent from ribbons.
This title is given, as an addition to any other titles, by Their Majesties, for whatever reason They wish. If the person receiving a Court Baronage is not previously Armigerous, this award carries an Award of Arms. By Kingdom law, a Court Baron or Baroness ranks below Leaves of Achievement but above Armigers (Awards of Arms). They wear a coronet of their own design, often decorated with pearls in addition to some personal insignia. (This listing includes the Award of Arms of those who received their Award with their Court Barony title, and they will not be listed in the Award of Arms listing below.)
