Horses were everywhere during much of the SCA's time period. They served as class symbol, commuter car, tank, fighter jet, muscle car, semi truck/train engine, hunting platform, tractor, and stately sedan.
Consequently, horses are ubiquitous in art depicting outdoor life prior to 1601. This abundant nature is both boon and bane of the equestrian researcher left to sort crucial detail from simple artistic license.
