What is PBIS?
According to REACH MS, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a "proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture and needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success." Bay Springs Elementary School has implemented PBIS in an effort to provide positive incentives to help improve academics, behaviors, and promote social growth. BSES has a strong history of providing student incentives and promoting positive behavior.
How BSES Implements PBIS
BSES implements PBIS on three levels:
Classroom and School-wide Expectations: BSES provides clear positive expectations for scholars to model across campus.
Target Goups: BSES uses data to determine undesired behaviors in groups of students and addresses behaviors through guidance lessons and positive reinforcements.
Individual Students: Students receiving extra behavior supports meet with the school counselor or referred to the positive behavioral specialist to develop strategies to address individual needs.
BSES PBIS Kick-off!
On September 20, 2022, Bay Springs Elementary School held its official PBIS Kick-off night during Parent and Family Night. Parents were given the opportunity to learn about PBIS and the STAR Student expectations. Parents also signed a pledge signaling their committment to partner with the school.
