GETTING STARTED
As you approach your senior year, you should start by having an idea in mind for your senior project. If you’re unsure of how to start thinking about your project, consider these three pathways:
Career Exploration...Is there a career you’re interested in pursuing after high school? If so, use your senior project experience to explore this career through internships or job shadowing with professionals in the community.
Building on a Passion...Do you already have something you’re passionate about but want to grow it in a different and new direction? If so, consider using your senior project to explore how you can take your passion to the next level. For example, if you play a sport but have never coached or hosted a youth clinic, consider organizing and running a team or clinic as part of your senior project.
Something NEW!!!...Have you always wanted to try something new but never had the time or reason to do so? If this is the case, use your senior project to explore a new language, instrument, or experience. Seniors have learned the trapeze, how to speak Russian, or play the violin. All were interesting, meaningful, challenging and completely new!
Once you have an idea, begin by completing the Project Proposal Form. You will outline the idea for your project, the process steps you will need to take to complete the project, and why this idea is a learning stretch for you.
The learning stretch is a key component of the project. What will be the new learning you will acquire through your project? What will be the new, challenging, or different experience this project affords you?
