Senior Project is an opportunity to explore your passion for a career, hobby, activity, or completely new adventure over the course of a year. Seniors will be able to apply communication skills, critical thinking, problem solving, research, and reflection to their work throughout the project process. At the end of the year, a deep exploration and new passion will emerge and students will be equipped with the tools they need to apply these skills in all that they do.
Welcome to the exciting world of Senior Exhibition! The Class of 2024 will receive support for the Senior Project from two disciplines; English and Social Studies. Your senior English teacher will guide you through the research process, while your Citizenship in a Democracy instructor will support three other components; project, website, and presentation. Together, as a team, we will do our best to meet the needs of each senior to navigate them through this process and ensure they graduate with success from Westerly High School. I look forward to helping seniors think outside the box and create meaningful projects that showcase the talents of our awesome student body!
This year we will have many creative and challenging projects! My hope is that the Class of 2024 will take the concept of the Senior Project and run with it. Our community of Westerly High School and the town of Westerly want to hear about and witness this opportunity. As a senior, this is your chance to truly apply your education from the Westerly Public Schools into a new and valuable learning experience. Good luck Class of 2024!

INVESTIGATION: Students will engage in an inquiry driven research process. Their research will be conducted through a deep investigation of a topic of their choosing, setting context for why this topic has meaning and value, documenting a literary analysis of research, and providing a synthesis and conclusion of the body of research. The Senior Research Investigation (SRI) will be read and students will receive content specific feedback to help improve and challenge their thinking and writing, resulting in a revision process, final submission, and proficiency determination.
PRODUCT: Background research will help guide students to creating a realistic, rigorous, and independent product that is a true learning stretch. The product will fall under one of three categories: intellectual product, physical product, or event/activity. There must be a clear relationship between the research paper and product. Product should be within a financial budget, keeping in mind that students are not expected to spend money in order to complete the Senior Exhibition Project. However, if a student selects a Senior Exhibition Project that requires a financial commitment, he/she will be responsible for those expenses. As part of the project, students must obtain a community mentor to assist in advising throughout the project. The mentor cannot be an immediate family member; i.e., mother, father, sister, brother or anyone under 21 years of age. The mentor must be someone who is knowledgeable or a professional in the area of interest. The mentor will be evaluating/supervising 15 hours of fieldwork. The product is truly the most independent component of the senior exhibition process.
ONE PAGER: Students will create a one-pager to visually showcase their project and ideas. These physical and digital documents will be used to promote your projects, raise awareness for issues, and be displayed on the walls at WHS.
PILLARS PRESENTATION: Students will give a presentation to a panel of high school judges showcasing their proficiency in the five WHS PBGR Pillars using their senior projects. This will take place two times before Senior Showcase. Students will be assigned a date and time for their board well in advance.
SENIOR PROJECT SHOWCASE: Having completed all other phases of the process, students will display their projects for district staff to view the wide range of projects. Projects will be rated.
