Dear Families,
It's been such a joy to spend the week with your children. I have really enjoyed getting to know them. This class is thoughtful, kind, and hard working. I'm thrilled for the year ahead!
Typically I include lots of pictures in the weekly updates, however, we are still waiting on a few photo releases to return to school. If you have not already, please send that paper work back to school. I will include this week's pictures in next week's update!
Much of this week we have focused on building our community and getting to know each other. We have discussed what it means to be a community and what we think our classroom community should look like, sound like, and feel like.
In math, we got to know each other as learners by creating glyphs to display our feelings about math. We graphed these glyphs in different ways. Here you can see us comparing the size group we prefer to work with in math (hat color). We also worked on our multiplication fluency by singing songs with 3s and 4s facts. Your child should we working on these multiplication facts at home everyday until they are memorized.
Coming home today is a poster of individual multiplication facts that your child has chosen to work on at home. These should be hung up at home (wall, frig, etc) so they can practice them.
We brainstormed our goals for fourth grade-- both social and academic--and turned these into written statements. We shared these hopes and dreams for fourth grade and discussed ways that our class community can support one another in achieving them.
On Thursday, we brainstormed a list of class rules that will help us be successful this year. We worked in groups to come up with our own ideas, that narrowed them down to our favorites. We synthesized this list into a final poster that will guide us this year.
