Today has been another great day! After another filling breakfast of cereal, juice and lots of cheese, salami and bread, we split into two groups for the morning - those of us who wanted to walk down to the beach and those of us who wanted to stay on camp and play football and basketball. All the children had a brilliant time and were rewarded by a cold drink just before lunch - which was an amazing paella! Well done to (almost) all children and adults who tried the paella and there were actually lots of clean plates at the end. Some of us even had seconds! We admit that for some, it took a bit of time to work out how to peel a prawn or to eat a mussel but we were so impressed with the children who tried this delicious dish. For those who were not fans, a serving of beefburgers and salad was just the treat!
In the afternoon we enjoyed swimming in the pool - it was a bit chilly but most of us managed to have at least a short dip. This was followed by a fantastic tennis coaching session from the team at Eurostage which is also a professional tennis academy. It’s safe to say that after two hours we all improved our backhand, forehand and serving! We have all just had a delicious dinner and are packed (well almost!) to save us time in the morning as we will be leaving our accommodation at 7.30am. Wish us luck for an early start! We all agreed today that we have had a superb time and while we would all like to stay a bit longer however we are all really looking forward to coming home! See you tomorrow!
Well, where to begin! We’ve had another incredible day in Barcelona. Today we took the train from our accommodation in Caldes d'Estrac along the coast to the town of Mataro to visit the Maristes Valldemia School. And what an amazing day we had! We had such a warm welcome as the Spanish children were keen to talk and spend time with us from chatting to playing football and other games. We spent lots of time in the playground getting to know each other before we had a guided tour of the school (a school for all ages of children and students) followed by a delicious lunch of pizza, vegetables and the most amazing strawberries! We all had seconds! Lunch break in the school each day lasts for two and half hours as the teachers and many children go home, so we had plenty of time after we had eaten for more time together in the playground. It was a lovely sunny day so we had to make sure we had plenty of water and suncream!
In the afternoon we split into smaller groups and spent time in classrooms presenting to each other. We were so impressed with your children as they showed such courage as they stood up in front of the Spanish students and talked confidently about festivals and celebrations in England and sharing favourite books. As our visit is called ‘Speak Out’ this was a truly excellent example of being brave and overcoming anxieties when communicating. So good! After our presentation the Spanish children then presented the importance of St George’s Day to us followed by a fantastic quiz on Kahoot which was won by Max and his team of Spanish friends! Jake and his team of Spanish friends then won the following quiz all about flags of the world. Well done boys! We loved spending time in the school and were so proud of your children as they quickly gained confidence in mingling and speaking together. We were all sad to say goodbye at the end of the day and really hope that we can see each other again in the future. To end this super day we celebrated with an ice cream on the beach and a quick paddle before taking our train back to Eurostage and dinner. The children are now writing their journals before getting ready for another good night’s sleep. Tomorrow those of us who are brave are going to try Paella for lunch! We are also going to have fun doing activities at Eurostage - we’re really looking forward to that!
After a good night's sleep our day started with a delicious breakfast of cereal (the choco shells were the most popular), juice, cheese, salami and fresh baguettes. Note to parents - we loved cheese and salami for breakfast! We then boarded our minibus for the drive to the centre of Barcelona. Once we’d arrived in the city centre we boarded an open top bus to start our adventure. We loved watching the world go by while listening to our audio guide which told us all about the interesting sights and history of this amazing city. Our first walking stop was a chance to walk past the famous Gaudi houses including the beautiful Casa Batllo. We then walked along part of the bustling Les Ramblas before taking the bus once again to the Parc de la Ciutadella where we had our picnic lunch including vegetable rice (not everyone was a fan of the olives though). The teachers had a well deserved coffee before we walked the narrow streets of the gothic quarter before once again boarding the open top bus which took us to our last destination of the day - the incredible Sagrada Familia. We were quite simply blown away with the architecture and amazing colours of light shining through the stained glass windows together with the tall tree like columns and stunning murals and statues. It actually took our breath away with its beauty. There were lots of ‘wow’ and ‘ahhhs’ when we entered - our tour guide told us to look at our feet as we walked in and then counted to ten before we were allowed to look up! Incredible! After an ice cream, we headed back on the minibus to Eurostage. We’re now playing games together before we have our dinner and then prepare for our day in the school tomorrow. Hopefully we will all sleep well again tonight!
It’s been a great day! A super journey on Easyjet from rainy Bristol to sunny Barcelona and an easy coach ride to Eurostage, our accommodation for the week. We’ve enjoyed settling into our rooms (and deciding who has top bunks!) before a guided tour of the site by Roger followed by a short walk down the hill through the town of Caldes d’Estrac to the beach where we played and paddled in the sunshine. A short walk back to our chalets followed by a delicious dinner (not everyone enjoyed the soup but the chicken schnitzel was very popular!). We are now winding down in the common room with time to chat and a couple of games of table tennis before we complete our journals and then get ready for bed. We’re all very excited to be here and are certain we’ll all sleep well! We’re looking forward to a busy day in Barcelona city tomorrow!
