Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
I helped my Computer Science Teacher (Mr. Raj) with IT. I shadowed him in his work by helping him and other teachers with problems. What I have learnt from this CAS Project is demonstrating that I am capable of initiating a project. I decided to do this because I am strong in Computer Science and I like computers. During the planning stage, I wanted to do a computer science internship with Mr. Raj because it would help me develop skills I would use for my university education and job. I also plan to give back to my community. During the preparation stage, Mr. Raj guided me through my process of making an app. He told me to use the application called Appsheet. I was the first person to use Appsheet so this helped me overcome my challenge of researching and finding out features about Appsheet. It took me a week to research Appsheet and the features of it. He also briefed me about the possibilities of expanding this and doing more things such as teaching and fixing teacher’s computers. During the action stage, I implemented my plan by making the app for the front office. The app for the front office digitalized and allowed the automation of information about parents that tour the school. This app also connected to Google Sheets which allowed for easy access and readability of the data. I also was able to be a teacher for primary students with Mr. Eamonn. He taught scratch which I have done before. I also helped fix hardware for teachers with Mr. Raj. An example of a hardware we fixed is the projector for a Thai class. With the opportunity of this experience, I am thankful for being under a good mentor like Mr. Raj. I have learnt a new application (AppSheet) and how to connect multiple google services to AppSheet. When being a teacher's assistant to Mr. Eamonn, I was able to develop my communication skills by teaching kids, and I developed patience. I feel that teaching with Mr. Eamonn was an amazing experience because he taught me Scratch during my time in primary and middle school. Helping him teach something that he taught me felt rewarding because his knowledge went to me like a full circle. While fixing hardware, I developed my critical thinking skills because I had to assess what was wrong and figure out how to fix it. I demonstrated my knowledge by making an app and teaching the front office how to make the app. By teaching the primary students how Scratch works and fixing problems with their computers. I was also able to fix hardware such as a projector.
