At the start of each block class we will have a mini-presentation (no slides) either on a current piece of news (any topic, any country) or "This Day in History" event that can be connected to one (or more) of our school's ESLRs (Expected School-wide Learning Results, see detailed description below).
Each of you will be assigned a date to present the news or This Day in History (see the schedules below). Check the latest schedule regularly as there might be changes. It is YOUR responsibility to know when it is your turn to present.
Requirements to your ESLR Media Minute/ This Day in History :
choose very recent news from a RELIABLE source OR go to https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history and choose a historical event that happened on the day you will be presenting;
re-tell it in your own words (use simple language) without reading off your screen or paper;
max 2-3 minutes long;
explain the connection to one or more of our ESLRs. It should be clear, relevant, and demonstrate good understanding of the ESLRs chosen (you don't have to stick to the generic ESL description - just go by your own logic and critical thinking);
be ready to discuss/answer the questions (so, you need to know the details well)
speak loudly and clear enough for everyone in class to hear and understand you.
If you wish to show an image along with your presentation, you need to send it to me BEFORE the class starts.
You will be graded on 1 to 4 basis, where:
1 = the news is unclear; many details like who/where/when/what/how, etc. are missing; no ESLR connection;
2 = the news is retold in a very basic way, but there is no clear ESLR connection;
3 = the news is retold, ESLRs are mentioned, but not explained clearly.
4 = the news is retold, you are able to answer additional questions related to the news you chose, and all possible ESLR connections (2 or more) are clearly explained.
If you are not ready on the assigned date, or you missed your presentation due to an unexcused tardiness, you will be given ONE chance to make it up on the consequent Wednesday. If still not ready, you'll receive a zero grade (which cannot be recovered).
Still not sure how to do it? Talk to me personally and we'll sort it out!:)
