At Welling school we give students the opportunity to develop basic culinary skills and understanding of nutrition and healthy eating principles so that they can build confidence when working in the kitchen to design, prepare and make a range of well-balanced food products.

Students will acquire and demonstrate the principles of food Hygiene and safety.
Identify basic kitchen equipment and their uses.
Practice preparation and cooking skills to produce quality products.
Understand the functions of ingredients and the importance of healthy eating.

food and nutrition
Students will apply principles of the Eatwell Guide.
Understand the key nutrients, functions and sources.
Use a variety of ingredients and equipment to prepare and cook a range of products.
what to expect in year 9
diet and health
Acquire and apply knowledge of food, diet and health.
Understand the importance of balanced diet and factors that affects food choice.
Extend Food Preparation and cooking skills and able to adapt recipes.
