Directed by Mrs. Fine
Produced by Ms. Speed

Auditions December 8 and 9, Callbacks December 11
Performances Mar. 26-28

Who can audition?

Everyone! All grades are welcome to audition.

Will everyone who auditions be cast?

It depends. We want to have a safe, positive experience for everyone in the show, and if we have a gigantic cast, it can be difficult to achieve that. Mrs. Fine may not be able to cast some students, so be sure that you prepare to the best of your ability in order to put your best foot forward at auditions.

When are rehearsals and performances?

Regular rehearsals are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:40-5:00pm. Students must be available for all three rehearsal days in order to be in the show. Talk to the producer, Ms. Speed, if you have questions! Performances are March 26, 27, and 28.

When are auditions?

Auditions are on Monday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 9 from 2:40-6:30pm. Auditionees should choose either Monday or Tuesday to audition. You can sign up for an audition using the link to the sign-up genius on google classroom. Callbacks, which is when we ask some folks to come back and see us again, are Thursday, December 11. Not everyone needs to come to callbacks!

What do I need to audition?

Do I need to prepare anything for the audition?

While everything you need to know will be taught at auditions, since Mrs. Fine may have to cut some folks, it's a good idea to prepare ahead of time as much as possible. All materials (except the dance) can be found on the google classroom. You will choose one of the four songs to sing, although it's a good idea to be familiar with all of them. You will also choose one of the monologues to perform. Try your best to memorize it so you can give your strongest, most connected performance.

What will happen at auditions?

All students will learn the song with the music director. Then, we will break into two big groups. One big group will learn the dance with the choreographer, then perform the dance in smaller groups. The other big group will be measured for costumes, and in the meantime, they will be pulled into the drama room in groups of 5 for their singing/acting audition. Then we’ll switch! Everyone needs to attend the whole audition process.

What is the show about?

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
