Second graders will be immersed in many different types of music. Students will start to develop their music literacy, both tonal and rhythmic. We will focus on DO-RE-MI-SO-LA songs and patterns. Grade 2 students begin to read and play basic rhythmic patterns, and learn to improvise.  They continue with more advanced folk dancing, and learn to locate the beginnings of phrases in the music for gained independence. 

Continued Singing Voice Development

• Showing macro and micro beat movements ina variety of settings

Aural Skils

• Hearing familiar rhythmic and tonal patterns in repertoire

• Having the ability to find the dominant beat in a phrase

• Students are able to listen to a measure of rhythm, and write it down.

Music Literacy

• Acquire DO-RE-MI-SO vocabulary through tonal patterns

• Count and play basic rhythmic patterns

  • Transition counting from Gordon Method to the traditional system of counting
