Meets Thursday mornings 7:50-8:30

Students can join Beginner Band after they have taken a minimum of four lessons with their private teacher.

• Students learn to play in a group which leads to ensemble playing

• Students begin to play in different parts

  • Balance and learning how their part fits into the group is learned

  • Skills needed to transition into the Fiske Band

• Students learn how to practice

  • Use of metronome

  • Target practice

Fiske Band

Meets Friday mornings 7:50-8:40

Students transition from Beginner Band into the Fiske Band with a recommendation from their after-school lesson instrument teacher.

Skills learned in the Fiske Band

• Balance

  • Dynamics

  • Accompaniment verses melody

  • Use of auxiliary percussion

  • Different Percussion techniques

• How to count and play syncopation, dotted rhythms, ties, and more complex time and key signatures

• How to indicate corrections in your part

• Various types of articulations including slurring, staccato, and legato tonguing

• How rehearsals are run

• Practice techniques with metronome

Fiske Orchestra

Meets Tuesday mornings 7:50-8:40

Students may join the Fiske Orchestra with a recommendation from their after-school instrument lesson teacher.
