The Chemistry Department has long had a policy that contact lenses are not to be worn in laboratories. This policy was consistent with those adopted by most academic and industrial laboratories.
In recent years there have been a number of changes in contact lenses, with most new and many long-time contact wearers using only extended-wear lenses. As the attached document indicates, many institutions are reevaluating their policies on contact lenses.
The Chemistry Department continues to recommend that contacts not be worn in laboratories. Any student who wishes to wear contacts in a laboratory must sign the form below and return it to her laboratory instructor. In all cases, the student must wear the appropriate eye protection for the particular laboratory course she is enrolled in – approved safety glasses or goggles.
