Parent & Child Help

Introduction

Your child has access to a range of resources through WeLearn365. As well as tools for teachers to share content with your child, there are also many resources which your child can access themselves or with you in a home learning situation.

Online Safety

It is important that children take the same approach to online safety when using home learning resources as they do when in school. It is also important that parents are aware of the types of resources available and understand their role in monitoring and supporting their children during online home learning. The following resources provide guidance for parents:

  • WeLearn365 Online Safety Guide for Parents PDF

  • Home Learning Tips for Parents PDF Image

  • Parents Online Safety Newsletter PDF

  • Disabling Camera Access on Devices (PC's, Macs, iPads, iPhones, Android tablets and phones and Chromebooks) PDF

Accessing WeLearn365

WeLearn365 is available from home on the vast majority of devices including but not limited to PC's, laptops, Macs, Chromebooks, iPads and Android tablets. Wherever possible, we recommend you use the Chrome browser on your devices as this provides the best user experience. If on your device you use other Microsoft or Google accounts, these may conflict with your child's WeLearn365 logon. In this situation, we recommend that you open a private or incognito browsing window to log into WeLearn365; instructions for Chrome can be found in this short video.

Access to WeLearn365 requires a username and password that must be provided by your school. Please note that ICTDS can under no circumstances provide usernames or passwords directly to parents or change passwords. All such, such requests must come through your child's school.

To access WeLearn365, visit www.welearn365.com

Logging into WeLearn365

Please follow this video or the text below.

At the WeLearn365 homepage (www.welearn365.com), select your child's school from the drop-down list, then click the 'Go' button. You will be prompted for a username and password. Children's usernames are in the format intial.surname@welearn365.com (e.g. a.smith@welearn365.com). Some usernames will also have a number at the end of the surname (e.g. a.smith12@welearn365.com).

In the username box, type just the first part of your child's username (everything before the @ symbol). For example, if their username was a.smith@welearn365.com, you would type just the a.smith part. In the password box, type their password which will be case sensitive.

Your child's school's SharePoint site will load.

Navigating WeLearn365

There are two variations of the WeLearn365 SharePoint site. Both provide access to home learning resources but the navigation for each is slightly different.

If your child's school has the newer Quick Launch interface, you will see a screen similar to the one shown left. This screen provides direct access to the Office365 apps, Purple Mash and j2e.

In the second variation, your screen will look similar to the one shown right.

Please click the Quick Launch link on the top navigation bar. This will load the Quick Launch screen shown above providing access to the Office365 apps, Purple Mash and j2e.

Accessing a 'Team' created by your school/teacher

Some schools are using the Teams app within WeLearn365 to share content and support learning. Teachers will normally add children into their class team and this will send an email invite to the child (to their WeLearn365 Outlook email). Clicking the link in this invite will automatically take your child to the class they've been added into. To navigate to their class team in future, they can still click the previously emailed link or can follow this process.

Accessing a Google Classroom created by your school/teacher

Schools who subscribe to the Google G Suite service may be using Google Classroom to share content and set work. Teachers will normally add children into their 'Classroom' and children will see this invite when they log into Classroom. Please see this video for details of how to access Classroom and send work back to your teacher.

Other Resources

Please see our dedicated page with additional free resources for home learning. Included in our list of other resources are a number of sites relating to online safety. At some point, the majority of parents will have had discussions with their children regarding their online safety. However, given that children are likely to be spending more time online during this period, revisiting discussions about online safety may be useful.
