Technicians/ Technical Support

Two technicians are available to support you with your work, whether it is learning a new technique, trouble shooting or a second opinion on your work or your portfolio, we are happy to help. We each have skills in different areas so check out our short bios and you can decide who you might like to see, then drop either of us an email to arrange something. Alternatively pop by room 45 and we can have a chat about what you need and sort out a time to help out. We have also been building webpages with information and links to tutorials for different softwares and processes, they are definitely worth checking out if you are stuck with something, or just want to start learning. Click the buttons below to be redirected to one of them. We are available between 8:00 and 1:00 every day.

Requesting a Screen for Screen Printing

Preparing a screen for printing is a lengthy process and has three stages, the first two must be completed by a technician before you can the expose and print with your screen. If you require a screen to be made ready it must be made clear to a technician via email, through your teacher or by dropping in to see Serena which sizes you need on Monday by 12:00 so that they can be stripped of old stencils and coated with fresh emulsion. The screen will then be ready for you to expose on or after Thursday that same week. There is a page which serves as a guide for the exposure process which can be accessed below, but of course if once you have read this you are still unsure a technician will be happy to come and assist you, or walk you through the process. Please only use the size of screen that has been prepared for you as the other screens in the cupboard have been prepared for other students.

Loaning Out of Equipment

We have various photography and filming equipment which is available to be loaned out to students such as DSLR cameras and lenses. If you come to room 45 between 8:30 and 12:30 you can talk to a technician about what you need and we can get the kit sorted for you. You cannot take out a loan of equipment for more than 7 days and it must be returned in the same condition with any memory cards wiped. Remember to save all of your photos/videos to your google drive before you return kit as you stand a chance of loosing all you work if not!

Serena Child

I graduated from university with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, so I am up to date with the interview processes and university life when going to study on a creative degree. I have worked in a range of mediums and have a good knowledge of sculpture, drawing, printmaking, pottery and textiles, as well as basic darkroom skills. I have worked in the creative departments of a few businesses using InDesign and Photoshop (mostly special effects). I would be really happy to help in any of these areas or to give advice for university interviews and portfolio reviews.
