Contact sheets show all the images taken during a photoshoot.
They are evidence of your work and are a quick glimpse into all your photos in one place vs multiple individual files that would need to be opened to be looked at. You will submit each contact shoot you do for your theme into the assignment on google classroom
Traditionally a contact sheet was a direct print made in the darkroom of the photographic negatives. It would have showed 24 or 36 photos (dependant on which exposure length of film you choose and if all the photos were taken). Which was the maximum amount of images that could be taken on a roll of film, unlike digital which is endless.
You now create contact sheets using Adobe Bridge or Photoshop of your digital files.
"A contact sheet, a direct print of a roll or sequence of negatives, is the photographers’ first look at what he or she captured on film, and provides a uniquely intimate glimpse into their working process. It records each step along the route to arriving at an image– providing a behind-the-scenes sense of walking alongside the photographer and seeing through their eyes.” Kristen Lubben
.
One is more successful than the other due to the range of experimentation and composition of images done in camera.
Take between 50 - 150 images for a digital shoot.
This will mean your contact sheet will be 2 - 5 pages long
Be selective when you photograph. Don't repeat yourself and take hundreds of images. Quality over quantity
Experiment when you are photographing with a range of photographic conventions - compositions, viewpoint, d.o.f, shutter etc
It is important to show evidence of the work you do, even some failures but delete over or under exposed images.
All contact sheets need to be uploaded to Drive and added to your website.
The contact sheets will be created in the same format as a film contact sheet with 5 columns and 6 rows
Include the file name in the contact sheet and rotate for best fit
Contact sheets are important as they show how you have taken your photos (technical) and your working process.
