You will be using your computer in new ways for this course. You will be doing the following:
Create folder on your computer to store your photography files and backup your photographs on google Drive
Create a website to document your photographic work with google website builder. (This is easier to do than having to print your work and paste in a workbook).
Use Adobe Creative Cloud software on your laptop to organise, edit and create photographs
You need to set up folders on your laptop and also Drive to store your photography files in.
You will store images on your laptop.
The drive folders are your back up of all images in case you loose your work or your laptop gets damaged.
Imagery will be uploaded to your website from your laptop files.
Contact sheets and proposals (pdf files) must be added from Shared folder on Drive.

Photographic Website Google Sites for E-Portfolios
We have found that Google education offers the best free online website software for students wishing to document their ideas and work as a website, which is both cheap (its free) and quick to maintain. Google sites also links with Drive so it is easier to upload your photographic work.
Your website will be disabled by your teacher once an assessment is handed in, which means that it can not be edited anymore and can only be viewed. Your website will be deleted at the end of the following school year.
You will create a Google website to record your ideas and learning (see below for specific information of how to do this)
Introduction to google sites
You will begin by copying a template of a website to use. Follow the instructions in the slideshow below.
Please use this example as a guide for creating your own, and make the site individual with your own photo's.
As you begin working you must:
Replace the stock imagery with your own
Make sure you have the website feedback pages set up correctly as this allows your teacher to give you comments when looking through your work.
RESEARCH:
Technical information
Works of artists
Your topic/theme
Any other information you feel is significant or relevant
CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT: should show an articulate and readable visual design process to include investigations of:
Ideas
Inspiration from artist models and application to own work
Photographic shoots
Experiments and solutions
Techniques and processes
Other relevant development work
Annotations explaining what you are thinking and critiquing your work
Contact sheets
Folio spreads
As part of being enrolled in the Photography course the school will upload software for the year to your laptop. This will happen during the first few weeks of Term 1. Further below are the instructions for how to install the software on your computer.
The main software we use in Photography class is the Adobe software. Bridge, Lightroom classic, and InDesign.
Photoshop is not necessary for the course but you may need to use if occasionally.
HINT: Each year Adobe software is updated. You might find that tutorials / screencasts will look different than the software version you have. The basics remain the same.
It is important that you have the most recent update for your computer to load this software. Also when you complete a system update with your computer it is good practice to backup the laptop first just in case.

An alternative to the Adobe products (partically Photosop) is the use of Gimp freeware software http://www.gimp.org/ or https://www.photopea.com/ an online photo editor. Affinity has also been developed however this is a paid for software. https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/#top
All are similar to Adobe software
There are also other freeware alternatives that can also be used.
