You will be using your computer in new ways for this course. You will be doing the following:
Create folder on your computer to store your photography files and backup your photographs on google Drive
Create a website to document your photographic work with google website builder. (This is easier to do than having to print your work and paste in a workbook).
Use Adobe Creative Cloud software on your laptop to organise, edit and create photographs
You need to set up folders on your laptop and also Drive to store your photography files in.
You will store images on your laptop.
The drive folders are your back up of all images in case you loose your work or your laptop gets damaged.
Imagery will be uploaded to your website from your laptop files.
Contact sheets and proposals (pdf files) must be added from Shared folder on Drive.

Keeping your folder with the computer syncing backup installed will cause you to not be able to complete tasks or find your work.
You will back up all your photographs on google drive so using icloud and onedrive is not needed

As part of being enrolled in the Photography course the school will upload software for the year to your laptop. This will happen during the first few weeks of Term 1. Further below are the instructions for how to install the software on your computer.
The main software we use in Photography class is the Adobe software. Bridge, Lightroom classic, and InDesign.
HINT: Each year Adobe software is updated. You might find that tutorials / screencasts will look different than the software version you have. The basics remain the same.
It is important that you have the most recent update for your computer to load this software. Also when you complete a system update with your computer it is good practice to backup the laptop first just in case.
Computer Adobe Software requirements - Chromebooks and ipads are not suitable.
Laptops must have the following minimum specifications, with the most recent updates installed. Adobe Creative Cloud desktop apps work with the latest operating systems for macOS and Windows and two prior versions.
macOS Ventura (version 13) or later
PC Windows 10 (64 bit) version 22H2 or later
Laptops require 25 Gig storage available on the hard drive. (This cannot be external storage.)
Laptops that do not have enough storage or updated specifications are unable to run the Adobe Software. There are 2 desktops that you can use in class and would need to download and use Affinity on your laptop.
Please check the links for the most up to date Specifications and requirements to run the following software:
Lightroom Classic: https://helpx.adobe.com/nz/lightroom-classic/system-requirements.html
InDesign: https://helpx.adobe.com/nz/indesign/system-requirements.html
Photoshop (optional): https://helpx.adobe.com/nz/photoshop/system-requirements.html
PC
Apple (mac)
Make sure your computer has the storage space and is updated.
Then go here: https://www.adobe.com/nz/creativecloud/desktop-app.html
Click "Continue to New Zealand" if it prompts
Click "Download Creative Cloud"
Run the installer
When prompted login with their email and password, selecting company/school account when it asks
Watch the screencast below to complete the installation.
Note all installation will be done in class/home. Any problems talk with me in class and I'll problem solve. The IT Dep is also available.
Adobe Bridge:
Lightroom Classic:
InDesign:
Affinity by canva
Affinity Photo - similar to Photoshop
Raster image editing (photo retouching, compositing, digital painting)
Affinity Designer - similar to Illustrator
Vector graphic design (logos, illustrations, UI design)
Affinity Publisher - similar to InDesign
Page layout and desktop publishing (magazines, books, brochures)
Adobe Tutorials - recommended to do

Organising and some editing
Bridge: We use this to import your photos onto your computer, view and file images. Also allows for some editing with Camera Raw and does not over-right your original photo. Can sort and organise images.
Editing
Lightroom: We use this for Non destructive editing software. (this means you can always get back to the original, it doesn't over right the photo).
Can adjust multiple images all at once. Uses a copy of your image so doesn't take up storage space on your computer. Professional software with more control than using Bridge - Camera Raw
InDesign is used to layout your images for printing when you are placing more than 1 image.
It is a NZQA specification that work for the folio is completed on an A1 board. The number of boards is dependant on the level of course you are completing.
