Hi! My name is Laura Metzger and I teach third grade at Rogers Elementary School. I just love third graders... third grade is my favorite grade to teach! Third graders are young enough to still innocently love school and their teachers, but old enough to follow rules/understand consequences, while still having fun. They are also SO eager to learn and such fun to teach!
I have lived in Waterloo my whole life! I love living here and feel fortunate to have raised my family in this great community. My husband, Bryan, and I have 4 kids - Trevor, Blake, Ellie and Reid. Trevor just got married earlier this year to Bree, who is a great addition to our family! Trevor is a 2017 WHS graduate, Blake is a 2018 graduate of Gibault High School, and both are SIUE graduates. Ellie graduated in 2021 and is attending SIUE, and Reid is a junior at WHS. We also have two Westies, named Wesley and Tucker, and two grand-dogs named Ghost and Mystie.
I have been a teacher for the past 24 years, teaching kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, as well as positions as a STEM & Enrichment/Gifted teacher, and a Library-Media Specialist. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Reading. Last year I was excited to be able to get back into my own classroom in third grade and I couldn't have been happier...I just love having my own "kids" all day in my own space! I feel lucky to be able to bring aspects of lower elementary school, as well as enrichment and technology, with into my classroom.
My little third graders are my extended family and I love each one as my own! Their successes are my successes and their struggles make me more determined than ever to find ways to help them in any way I can. Ultimately, I want to help all of my kiddos be the best version of themselves that they can be, both academically and socially!
