History of the Los Angeles Dodgers By Dylan Cocunubo April 15, 2025
A Major League Baseball team known for its rich history, the L.A. Dodgers have made numerous contributions to the sport, and built a passionate fan base. Founded in 1883 as the Brooklyn Grays, but were soon known by many other names like Grays, Atlantics, Bridegrooms, Grooms, Superbas, and Robins. After they moved to Los Angeles in 1958, they'd won seven World Series championships, and 24 National League pennants. Their first World Series championship in 1955 was as the Brooklyn Dodgers, and their most recent championships are in 2020 and 2025.
Dodger Stadium opened in 1962 when Walter O'Malley became president of the organization, who would maintain that position for twenty years. Under his administration, the Dodgers won many league titles in the 1950s. They lost in the World Series many times to the Yankees, yet won it all in 1955. Despite the frustrations, the group had some good players who became known as the "Boys of Summer," including Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Carl Furillo, Don Newcombe, Carl Erskine, Jim Gilliam, Duke Snider, Preacher Roe and Clem Labine.
Ticket prices for Los Angeles Dodgers games can vary widely based on several factors, including the opponent, day of the week, seat location in the stadium, and whether the game is part of a special event or promotion. Upper deck seats typically range from $10 to $30. Lower deck seats range from $30 to $100. And the best premium seats can range from $100 to several thousand dollars, especially for seats near the field or in luxury boxes. World Series tickets recently reached $15,000 during their 2025 championship.

Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Review
By Brandon Garcia April 18, 2025
Kendrick Lamar, known as one of the best rappers of our generation recently performed at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. His performance was one of the greatest and most hyped halftime shows ever. Kendrick’s performance excited the music world, showing the deep meaning of music. Some say it was decent and didn't deserve the excitement it got. Although some may have different opinions, Kendrick Lamar’s performance was top tier. He gave meaning to his music with big social ideas and big spectacle, even bringing SZA out to perform alongside him. Many people were excited to hear two of the most popular musicians of our generation perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. Even though she may have not performed many songs, she still made fans cheer with all their heart for her.
Many critics all across the world said Kendrick’s performance was the greatest Super Bowl halftime show. Pitchfork stated, “The halftime show was a 13-minute performance. It was a blend of hip-hop, politics, and storytelling, with critics praising its artistry and some finding it polarizing due to its unconventional approach.” This breaks down exactly the meanings and themes of the halftime show. The songs chosen were performed to reflect his journey, his connection to his culture, and to provoke thought rather than just entertain. These songs had deeper meanings; they showed how far he's made it in the music industry and life.
The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most popular live sports shows in America. Many iconic artists have graced the Super Bowl halftime stage, including Micheal Jackson, U2, Prince, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna. To perform at the halftime show is an honor, and Kendrick’s popularity and talent for music certainly makes him honorable to perform. Lamar’s music definitely lives up to the hype, even though some may say his music is “overrated.” Kendrick responded with new music to even make some haters become fans of his music.
Lamar has gained lots of popularity after releasing his new album GNX and a few huge songs like “Not Like Us.” Kendrick Lamar's career has been very successful, but with his recent songs, he has certainly received a lot of popularity and will continue to succeed in his career.

Our Wildcat track program at Edgewood Middle School is an afterschool sport, where the students go to two different schools to compete against other schools, such as Hollencrest, Walnut Grove, and San Jose. These schools compete at Mt. San Antonio College and West Covina High School. The annual track meet this year will be held at the West Covina High School track field on May 21. This year, over one hundred students participated during this track season. They are talented, energetic, and enthusiastic. Seventh grader Jayla Pena said, “I wanted to show my racing skills to everyone else.” Another seventh grader Destiny Amaya said, “I joined track because I wanted to challenge myself with different sports.”
One of our starring wildcats is Jayla Pena, who received three 1st place medals last year when competing against Hollencrest, Walnut Grove, and San Jose Charter at West Covina High School. She said about that historic day, “I felt really proud of myself because I thought I was not going to win anything, and I did not know I could challenge myself like that.”
The students get to participate in eight events. There are three field events: the shot put, junior javelin throw, and the long jump. There are two relay events: the 4 x 100-meter relay, and the 5 x 400-meter relay. There are three individual races: the 400-meter, 800-meter, and 100-meter dashes. Edgewood holds the district record in several of these events. Edgewood also plans to have a preliminary track meet at the end of April here at Edgewood.
The coaches are Coach Christina Sagarminaga and Coach Kathy Jackson. Coach Christina was an award-winning high school track star and has coached the EMS Middle School Team for three years. Coach Jackson has coached the program for ten years since 2014.
