Butterfly Club
By Sophia Cordon Dec. 18, 2024
Over the years the Butterfly Club has improved and changed. Last year we had a different teacher, Miss Gomez. But this year the teacher's name is Miss Duran. The class is C4. Miss Duran is a nice and caring teacher. In the Butterfly Club, we plant plants and find caterpillars to protect so they do not get eaten by the birds. As of now, there are 8 people in the Butterfly Club. She welcomes new members to the club if they want to join. People of any grade can join. They meet on Tuesdays after school.
This year the club has had 14 butterflies fly away because they grew. Hopefully she can get more caterpillars to become butterflies. The Butterfly Club is where the kids find caterpillars and bring them to Miss Duran, and then she puts them in a butterfly cage.
Rikki Williams (7th grade) tells me she loves it. She really likes butterflies and likes helping them become butterflies. She tells me she loves the colors on them because they are so beautiful and look amazing. She said she likes the blue butterflies because they mean peace and trust and she loves that.
To me the Butterfly Club is very important because we need butterflies in our world. And also they can die in our school. So that is why we have a club to save them. Butterflies are very beautiful. They pollinate our food sources, and help with our food, so that's why we need them. We can't just let them die. Weeds or invasive plants around milkweed can pose a risk to the health of the plants and in some cases could even harm or kill milkweed and we don't want that to happen because caterpillars eat milkweed. Caterpillars also have a very specific diet depending on their species, they generally feed on the leaves of specific plants which can be crucial for their growth. Monarch caterpillars feed on milkweed which are the butterflies we have here. Right now they are working with Monarch butterflies and caterpillars. They have six chrysalises so we plan to let go of many more Monarch butterflies.
I hope that next year we will have more kids that want to join and more butterflies to let go.
ASB Club
By Ariel Gonzalez Dec. 18, 2024
The ASB club does a lot for our campus every year. They set up rallies and they do a lot of things for holidays. For example, for Thanksgiving they hid small 3D turkeys everywhere around the school. And for Halloween they wanted students to show their costumes. They also did a spooky match with twins where you dress up in spooky pjs and match with someone else. ASB also sets up all major rallies, dances like homecoming, winter formal and prom.
When ASB students set up the recent rally, they went around and asked all the 7th grade teachers if they wanted to participate in the activities they had.
What ASB has in the rallies, ASB plans fun/cool activities for the students that play sports. They have them play fun activities but before they do all of that they have one of the ASB student to sing the pledge of allegiance. ASB makes fun games at lunch for students to participate.
ASB paint posters Sometimes they paint different ones depending on the theme and they put them all over the school.
School events, holidays and other times they are working on leadership assignments like work evaluations and reflections. When they make posters they get better and better at it for the rallies and they are amazingly drawn/planned out. On Fridays the ASB students go out to classes and ask if anyone is wearing Edgewood gear and they take pictures. ASB are incharge of the schools social media so that parents and kids can see what is going on. They also help you before school starts to get your books and your list of classes for school. The teacher of ASB is Miss Poncia. There are 27 students in ASB. An ASB student told me this quote, To show you are a good leader you just need to put yourself out there and show confidence.
If you are planning on being here next year, ASB is a great elective to choose. Although ASB seems like a lot of fun, ASB expects certain expectations. To be in asb you need skills like leadership, responsibility, maintaining good grades, good behavior and more. This just shows how much ABS does for our school. Thanks to ASB we have all of our fun activities at school. If you see an ASB member walking around school make sure to give them a big thanks, until next time wildcats.
