Art is a visual language. We can use it to convey information, ideas, opinions, and experiences. Think about what you have already done this summer, or what is to come. Share your experience visually in a sketchbook or journal.
Carry your journal with you for quick access to a place you can sketch, draw, write, collage and think! It's so satisfying to look through a completed journal to reminisce on memories and see how much you have changed from its beginning to its end.

Collect images! Photographs, artwork, articles...anything you find interesting or inspiring...you can collage inspirational images and resources into your journal, or have a photo folder on your phone dedicated to inspiration you find. You can use these images as a diving board to create art, or to think differently about your own artwork.
Art can be used as a tool to record observations and experiences. Recording visual information through drawing or painting creates a very different story than taking a picture. A drawing or painting depicts your personal connections with a subject, and in this way, a more 'true' image of your experience. Your memories, mood, and physical state will all impact your art. See what happens when you go on a nature walk and bring your sketchbook and some materials instead of a camera.
Set aside 10 minutes for yourself every day. Sit somewhere away from distractions like the tv, your phone, or the xbox. Within these 10 minutes, in a space that is conducive to working, zentangle. Zentangling is a way of creating structured patterns to create an image. Check out their website linked above!
