Research-Based Informational Writing is when a writer picks a topic, gathers facts from trustworthy sources, and writes to teach others about, using different text structures to organize the information.

Informational Writing Activities:

Pick a topic you love, research it, and write a short script as if you were narrating a documentary on that topic. For a fun extension: screen record visuals with your voice in the background.

Choose two historical eras (like the 1950s vs. the 2020s). Research favorite snacks, clothing, and technology during those two time periods. Then, create two sets of cards and invent a game using your cards.

Pretend you are a YouTuber who ranks different items. Research any "top 10" category you're interested in (ex: top 10 McDonald's menu items). Rank the items based on your research. Write a script explaining why each item is ranked in each spot and use facts to back up your points. Then, present it like a YouTuber as if you were making a "Top 10 countdown" video!
