Music is a core subject in NYS and there are standards to meet at each level from PreK-12th Grade. A detailed version of the NYS Core Standards for Music can be found on the NYSED website here.Â
All lessons are carefully crafted to meet these standards at each grade level.
1st music is where we grow our voices! We learn to use our singing voices, our speaking voices and even our shouting and whispering voices! Music is a language and can help with language acquisition, as well as literacy skills to help support students as they are learning to read! We build on concepts started in Kindergarten to solidify our musical foundation.
We learn to move our bodies to a beat and to rhythms. We focus on the joy to be found in music! We play games and learn about the basics including steady beat, simple rhythms, simple melodies, and how to safely use our bodies and the classroom instruments to create sounds and music.
