GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Graduation Requirements

Through a concentrated focus on core instruction through our middle and high school curriculum, our students will have completed nearly all of their high school graduation requirements by the end of their sophomore year as they prepare for their transition to Saint Augustine's University.  You can view complete information about high school requirements through the WCPSS High School Program Planning GuideOur OWLS must complete the following graduation requirements by the end of their senior year to earn a WCPSS diploma:

English I, II, III and IV or equivalent college courses - 4 English credits

NC Mathematics I, II, III and one math higher than level III - 4 Math credits

Class of 2023 Social Studies Requirements:  World History, Civics/Economics, and American History I and II or AP US History and 1 Humanities course - 4 Social Sciences credits

Class of 2024 & Beyond social Studies Requirements:  World History, Civic Literacy, American History Honors OR AP US History, and Economics & Personal Finance - 4 credits

Earth Science, Biology and Chemistry - 3 Science credits

Healthful Living - 1 credit:  Fulfilled through either high school Healthful Living or a college Personal Health and PE course

6 elective credits - For application to a four year college, students must take two consecutive levels of the same foreign language.

*Students must earn a total of 22 credits to receive a high school diploma.

Prerequisite Courses to Attend Saint Augustine's University

At the start of their junior year, students will transition to taking all high school and college classes on the Saint Augustine's University campus.  To make this transition, students must earn credits in the following high school courses by the end of their sophomore year:

English I and II

NC Math I, II and III

World History and Civic Literacy

Earth Science, Biology, and Chemistry

Early Graduation

Students and parents who are interested in pursuing early graduation must complete and submit an early graduation form 30 days prior to their intended last semester at WYWLA.  Interested students and parents must meet with Mrs. di Carlo to review course and college planning before declaring an intention to graduate early.  All early graduate requests are subject to approval by our principal.  Please contact Mrs. di Carlo if you are interested in requesting early graduation.
