School counselors are certified/licensed educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. What community based services are available for students who need additional support?

While supporting the needs of students, it may become apparent that mental health services are needed beyond the level of support that WCPSS staff can provide. Parents may seek mental health services on their own, or may consult with Student Services Staff to access community mental health resources.

Parents/guardians may independently call the Alliance Health Access number 24/7 at 877-223-4617 to link their child to a behavioral/mental health provider. The Alliance Health Access number cannot assist with referrals or linkage to a provider if the student has private insurance, NC Healthchoice, or one of the 5 Medicaid Standard Plans. However, mobile crisis services can be accessed through this number by any individual regardless of the type of insurance or for those who are uninsured.  A guardian whose student has private insurance, NC Healthchoice, or one of the 5 Medicaid standard plans must call their insurance provider directly for assistance in identifying behavioral/mental health providers in their network.

Alliance Bridge to Service program (The Alliance Health School-Based Team, “SBT”) is a partnership between WCPSS and Alliance Health. Staff members can help assist with a referral. Please contact your level counselor for additional information.
