The Apex Public School Foundation shared some great information about "Stopping the 'Summer Slide' without Sacrificing Fun During School Breaks", including track-outs!
Finding the perfect balance between a carefree, relaxing summer or school break and making sure your kids stay invested in learning and ready for the upcoming semester is a challenge!
As a parent, you don't want your child to enter the next grade unprepared, but you also don't want to spend each school break serving as an academic taskmaster. So what's a concerned parent to do?
It is possible for your K-12 child to enjoy fun breaks from school and still start the next semester prepared. Author and Educator Ann Dolin, M.Ed., will show you how!

The Apex Public School Foundation recently shared a presentation on Cell Phone Addiction and Digital Health, and we are happy to share it as a resource here for our West Lake families!
Practical strategies for a healthier connection to phones, technology and social media
More and more, kids are living their lives in front of a screen. Numerous studies have shown that tech dependence has clinically significant physical and psychological effects on youth. Bottomless content and endless hours of browsing can lead to developing mental illness including addiction. Addiction to technology is real and is considered by experts to be a driver of the mental health crisis we see impacting youth today.
Tabby Moore, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with Triangle Springs Hospital, will examine the diagnosis of tech addiction. Moore will provide guidance, tools and resources to help parents navigate what often seems to be the subject of daily battles at home. Learn practical strategies to use with children who are just beginning to use technology or with those who already have an unhealthy relationship with tech.
