Wakefield High School PTSA Scholarships
The PTSA is proud to offer $1000 scholarships for the following categories:-
2025 PTSA Academic Scholarship (3)
The Academic Scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellent academic achievement throughout high school.
2025 PTSA Activities and Service Scholarship (3)
The Activities and Service Scholarship is awarded to a student who has participated in and/or demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities at school or through a community organization.
2025 PTSA Arts Scholarship (1)
The Arts Scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellence in a performing or visual arts throughout high school.
2025 PTSA First Generation Scholarship (1)
The First Generation Scholarship is awarded to a student who is of the first generation of his/her immediate family to attend college. (Students are eligible ONLY if neither parent graduated from college).
2025 PTSA Community College Scholarship (1)
The Community College Scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to attend an accredited community college, junior college or technical school.
In order to apply, students and a parents/guardian MUST be PTSA members by April 11, 2025.
Couch Oil Cares Scholarship
Central to Couch Oil Cares is the Couch Oil Cares Scholarship program. Since 2015, Couch Oil Company has teamed up with the Durham Bulls to offer scholarships to deserving high school students who reside in our service area. Now in its 11th year, six scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in July 2025.
Eligibility:
Residents of Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Nash, Orange, Person, Vance, Wake, and Wilson counties.
Those who have been accepted to and registered as first-year college students for the 2025-2026 school year
Those who are no more than twenty-five (25) years of age at the time of the scholarship presentation.
Selection of Recipients: June 2025
Scholarship Presentation: Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Attendance by recipients is required!

Jane Smith/Brenda Marbell Scholarship
The Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international fraternal organization for teachers, is sponsoring a scholarship competition for seniors in designated high schools in Wake and Franklin Counties.The Jane Smith/Brenda Marbell Scholarship is a one-time award of $1000.00.
Requirements are as follows:
To complete the entire application form
To be in the top 25% of the senior class
To include a transcript with first semester grades and class rank
To write an essay (without assistance and accompanied by verification that the essay was begun and completed in the presence of a teacher, counselor, or parent/guardian) on one of the topics found in the application
To include 2 letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a teacher who has taught the applicant
The application deadline is Friday, April 25, 2025. Applications must be submitted by this date (April 25, 2025) to be eligible for consideration.

Hugh Morson Memorial Scholarship
Who is eligible for the scholarship?
A: Applicants must:
· Be high school seniors or college students.
· Be residents of the city of Raleigh, North Carolina.
· Demonstrate financial need.
· Demonstrate academic achievement.
· Plan to attend full-time at an accredited public or private, four-year college or university located in the United States.
· A minimum cumulative GPA 2.5 on a weighted GPA scale.

William Gaston Allen Scholarship
Applicants must:
Be high student seniors.
Have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Be from Wake, Wayne or Brunswick County, North Carolina.
Demonstrate financial need.
Have been enrolled in the local high school full time during his or her junior and senior year.
Have demonstrated sincere interest in, and commitment to, pursue higher education.
Demonstrated interest in enhancing personal potential.
Demonstrate traits of high personal character and leadership.
Be planning to attend full-time an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, technical, trade or professional school.

Raleigh Engineer's Club Scholarship
A complete application consists of:
- The REC Scholarship Questionnaire (EMAIL MRS. OBERTO FOR THIS!)
- A pdf scan of your NCSU - College of Engineering Acceptance Letter
- A pdf scan of your most current high school transcript
- A Letter of Recommendation from a faculty member familiar with you*

Alliance of Black School Educators Scholarship
All applicants must submit the following required documents:
the completion of this form and parent signature
an acceptance letter from a college or university
a letter of recommendation from a teacher, a counselor, or a community member (which includes an objective perspective about the qualities of the applicant from a person who is not a friend or family member)
one-page (typed and double-spaced) essay that includes the following topics: Your Leadership Qualities/Experiences, Community Service Experiences, and Why You Should Receive the Scholarship. Consider writing this essay in a narrative format. Scan and send your essay, this application, one recommendation letter, and a copy of your college acceptance letter to the email address below before the deadline of 12pm on March 24, 2025.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Raleigh Alumnae Chapter
Last year, scholarships were awarded to three outstanding young women from Wake County Schools, and the organization is eager to continue this tradition. The organization would like to invite graduating senior young ladies from Wake County Schools to apply again this year.
We are offering three scholarships:
1st Place: $1,500
2nd Place: $1,000
3rd Place: $500
This program is not a typical scholarship. While academic excellence and extracurricular involvement are important, they are also looking for applicants who demonstrate creativity and are civically and socially engaged.

Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club Scholarship
Applicants must be an eligible Graduating High School Senior/GED recipient during the fall 2024/Summer 2025 school year who will be post-secondary or vocational/trade school in 2025 with a minimum GPA of 2.0

Sigma Scholars Foundation, Inc.
The Sigma Scholars Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization that was established to provide scholarships to deserving Wake County High School Seniors that have been accepted and who have committed to attending a Two-Year Associate’s Degree Program or Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree Program following graduation. These scholarships are designed to provide funding assistance for educational expenses.
The Foundation’s Board of Directors is seeking applications from students from your High School that meets or exceeds the following criteria:
A student in good standing with the high school;
A US citizen (subject to verification);
Parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s) and/or Student must be a Wake county residents and student is enrolled full-time in a Wake County Public High School; and,
Be a high school senior enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited postsecondary institution*
(*Approved institutions are defined as those accredited, postsecondary two or four-year colleges or universities in the United States. Proof of enrollment is a condition of eligibility for a scholarship award and will be required before funds will be disbursed.)
Interested students must complete the scholarship application along with providing the following:
A 400-word maximum typed essay (see essay topics on the application);
Two (2) letters of recommendation (one must be from a teacher, counselor, or other school official);
Official transcript of grades (3.0 GPA or higher required);
Community Service (minimum of 30 hours)—packet must include a signed letter from an organization or church affiliation on official letterhead; and,
Current photo (headshot) of applicant.
Self-Help Credit Union Scholarship
Purpose
To provide financial assistance to those who have committed to improving their lives and their community by furthering their education.
Eligibility
Those who plan to attend or are attending any post-secondary educational institution will be eligible. Eligible institutions include universities, colleges, technical schools, trade, and vocational institutions.
Self-Help employees and board members and their family members are not eligible to apply. A “family member” is a person's spouse, parents, siblings, children, and life partner; the parents, siblings and children of a person’s spouse or life partner; and anyone living within the person's household as a family member.

Pearls in Partnership Foundation, Inc. Scholarship
Pearls in Partnership Foundation, Inc., in collaboration with the Omega Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, annually awards The Pearls In Partnership Scholarship to assist promising Black/African American high school graduates to continue their education at institutions of higher learning (colleges, universities, or technical schools). As such, in 2024 we awarded 3 educational scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each to high school students who attended public, private or home schools in North Raleigh and Franklin County, NC.
The scholarships were awarded to students who demonstrated academic excellence, leadership skills, community service and need.

The O'Berry Center Foundation offers a $1,000 scholarship opportunity to four students entering college or already in college who have the intent to work in careers that help the developmentally disabled.

Men's College Scholarship
The scholarship is designed to identify and reward outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated an ability to excel in the fields of academics, extra-curricular school activities and community involvement. The scholarship is available to any male, graduating high school senior who is enrolling in a four-year undergraduate college program that commences in the fall. The scholarship is awarded through the Foundation for Fraternal Excellence, a registered 501(c)3 organization. Current or future membership in a fraternity is not required.

PowerUp! Scholarship
Essay Topic: SOLV Energy believes that renewable energy plays a vital role in creating a brighter future, and that every person can make a difference in their quest for a more sustainable planet.
Write a 500-1,000-word essay explaining how you plan to use your education to help achieve this goal. Include your experience with a high school or community outreach project that shows how you are working toward this goal. Include illustrations or pictures as needed.
Eligibility: Currently enrolled high school seniors with a minimum combined 3.0 GPA, who are accepted to, and have committed to attend a trade school, community college or 4-year university in the fall of 2025. In order to receive scholarship funds, you must provide us with an official letter of enrollment from your school.

Workforce Development Regional Scholarship
The NC Home Builders Association Educational & Charitable Foundation is thrilled to once again offer at least eight $1,000 Workforce Development Regional Scholarships to high school seniors pursuing careers in the residential construction industry! One scholarship will be awarded per NCHBA region to students enrolling in a community college or trade school to earn a degree, diploma, or certificate in fields such as construction management, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, or HVAC.

Hagan Scholarship
The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, providing recipients with the opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate college debt-free. The scholarship provides $2,000 to help pay for essential items to attend college and up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters. Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts, and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. Hagan Scholars have attended 637 colleges and universities located in 49 states and the District of Columbia and have studied abroad in 58 countries.

Eligibility Requirements
1. Must attend a high school located in the United States.
2. All high school students eligible regardless of nationality.
3. Must be fluent in the English language.
4. Must be in the high school graduating class.
5. Must have achieved an unweighted 3.50 CGPA based on a 4.0 Grading Scale.
6. Must enroll in an eligible four-year College or University the first fall semester following high school graduation.
7. The scholarship cannot be used to attend a community college, junior college, or online institution.
8. Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule, or complete the equivalent of a four year degree if in a professional program.
9. Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2025 until September 1, 2025. Work must be regularly scheduled employment performed under supervision for compensation. Employment can be full-time or part-time.
10. Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2023 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. “Household Income” is defined as the total income received by all adult members of a household living under the same roof.
11. Applicants are not required to provide FAFSA information. Finalists must provide the FAFSA Summary showing the SAI.
12. Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.

UNCF STEM Scholars Program
Eligibility requirements :
Be a high school senior at the time of the application
Be African American, Hispanic American, Asian Pacific Islander American, American Indian / Alaskan Native
Be a citizen, legal permanent resident, or national of the United States
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on an unweighted 4.0 scale
Pursued a rigorous course of study in high school in math and science courses, including pre-calculus
Have demonstrated financial and unmet need as measured by the student’s college or university
Show evidence of readiness for and commitment to pursue STEM majors, including biological/life sciences, physics, chemistry, computer science/engineering, information sciences, engineering (industrial, mechanical, electrical or chemical), mathematics
Be enrolled for the first time at a U.S.-located, accredited college or university (with the exception of students concurrently pursuing a high school diploma while taking college-level courses) in the fall as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student

Morehouse College Triangle Alumni Association Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements:
The applicant must be a graduating high school senior (male or female) at the time the application is submitted.
The applicant must be a North Carolina resident.
The applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
The applicant must have been accepted and anticipant on attending a Historically Black College and University for the Fall 2025 semester.
The applicant must provide (1) academic letter of recommendation and (1) community service letter of recommendation. (see application for more specifics)
Requirements for Application Submission
The applicant must complete and submit a full application packet by the provided Sunday, April 13, 2025 deadline, which includes the following:
Completion of the online Scholarship Application in its entirety.
(1) Official High School Transcript with the school's official seal. Physical transcripts should be submitted by the school's counselor and mailed to the P.O. Box indicated below.
Two signed letters of recommendation from (1) an official high school representative (on letterhead) and (2) a community service representative or community leader. Each letter must be addressed to the Morehouse Triangle Alumni Association & upload it to the application. It must be in PDF ONLY.
An essay of 250-500 words on one of the four topics below typed in 12-point font, double-spaced, and Times New Roman:
1. "What an HBCU Education Means to Me". Reflect on the significance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the Black community. Discuss why attending an HBCU is important to you, how it aligns with your personal goals, and how you envision it empowering you to make a difference in your family, community, and future career.
2."Lessons from My Father or a Father Figure" Reflect on how a father, father figure, or male role model has influenced your values, aspirations, or outlook on life as you prepare for the next chapter.
3. "HBCUs as a Gateway to Leadership and Social Change" Write about how you envision using your education at an HBCU to address social issues or create positive change in your community and beyond.
4. "Building a Brighter Future Despite Economic Uncertainty"How do you plan to navigate financial challenges, pursue higher education, and contribute to creating a better future for yourself and others?
Note: ACT and SAT scores are optional, but welcomed as part of your application if you believe it will help strengthen your application.
North Carolina Prestigious Scholarships
As a school, we are able to nominate a few students each year to several prestigious scholarship programs including the Morehead-Cain (UNC), Levine Scholars (UNCC) and Cheatham-White Scholars (NCCU). In order to select our nominees, we ask that if you are interested, to please complete the google form below to assist our selection committee.
More information can be found on the form above. If your student is not selected as our nominee, they can still self-nominate to be considered by the university scholarship committee. We will notify seniors when the selections have been made in August.
The scholarships below are often 4-year, full-tuition scholarships with added benefits such as study abroad, research funding, etc. Some schools ask that we nominate students each year who would be quality candidates for the scholarship requirements. An application can be filled out the summer before Senior Year to apply for the allotted nominations from Wakefield HS. If your student is not selected, the scholarships with an (*) next to them allow for students to self-nominate as well! Please use the links below to learn more about each scholarship.
