The WOE School Counselors in partnership with all student support staff, teachers and under the leadership of administration, have supported and implementation of a comprehensive approach to social and emotional learning. Combining classroom curriculum, self-regulation, a community mantra and personal character growth, we are committed to developing the whole child, and building the confidence to achieve superior academic outcomes.
The Zones of Regulation model is an emotional regulation tool which is implemented directly into classrooms. Counselors and teachers are trained to teach self awareness and regulation by utilizing a visual of color coded emotional management. Teachers have applied the zones of regulation model and are encouraged to implement the use of the visual cues to help students de-escalate in the classroom.
Teachers will provide SEL lessons in the classroom to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Some of the topics focused on are growth mindset and goal setting, emotion management, making and keeping friends, kindness & empathy, having good socials skills, coping skills for strong emotions, problem solving, career development, and many more!
TREK is a school wide positive behavioral intervention that is implemented at White Oak Elementary School. TREK principles improve social, emotional, and academic outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities and students from underrepresented groups. All of the students in the school TREK and earn positive rewards to encourage applying target behaviors.
